Thin Places, Thick Places (Series)
Day 5.
“‘Thin places,” the Celts call this space,
Both seen and unseen,
Where the door between the world
And the next is cracked open for a moment
And the light is not all on the other side.
God shaped space. Holy.”
—Sharlande Sledge
Traditionally, thin places are sacred physical places. Sometimes, for me, a thin place is exactly what is spoken of in the above passage. A God shaped space.
Today, my heart was filled with God shaped space. We were able to spend some time with friends at our little “farewell” party at a really lovely spot.
The weather was perfect, the catered food (Charcuterie boards, salads, beverages, etc…) was delicious, the service was incredible and the LOVE was alive.
Thin places will never die. They will endure forever. Just as love will. I wish I could both take a piece of heart from the precious friends with whom we broke bread today, as well as give a piece of my own to each of those friends.
Friends, old and new, ARE a sacred place. A thin place. Relationships, face to face, do make this life worth living.
As I age, I have the pleasure of judgement shedding off bit by bit. We are all wounded treasures. Some relationships bring out our wounding more than others. Some relationships bring out the treasure more than others. Whatever the case may be, we really do need to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to understand why they do what do or don’t do.
There is FREEDOM in mercy! Freedom to truly see and love people where they are. Today/tonight, I had the pleasure of seeing beloved people and I felt so much love for them right where they are. Such a THIN PLACE. Amen.
To be continued…
ps. I wish I were better at multitasking in a social context. I was able to get photos of a few of the treasures, but not all.
