Thin Places, Thick Places Day 15

Thin Places, Thick Places (Series)

Day 15.

3 days until lift-off.

Travel Apps and fancy watches and pets.

Today brought the discovery of a wonderful app that will assist us all into finding some thin places. I was repeatedly drawn to the stories about FOOD.

I didn’t realize how much food plays a role in ushering me into a thin place. Not typical food, but artfully prepared-with-love-and-culture food.

The GuidePal app is a lovely app. It gives local tips, “Words to the Wise” hints about various eateries, neighborhoods, tourist attractions, streets, bars, markets, cultural 411,  etc.

It’s been some very informative reading. I’ve downloaded the GuidePal app for Paris, Berlin, and Edinburgh so far. We’ll be walking all about just like the locals in no time.

Mr. J received quite a gift (a loaner) today. Agent Shades saw it fit to share one of his fancy, military-ish, satellite, can do and tell everything GPS watch with Mr. J. Agent Shades wanted to give Mr. J some “man” responsibilities. Mr. J was HAPPY to oblige. I think Mr. J and I are equally jazzed about such things. He just understands how to use them much more than I.

Ms. A was very busy preparing our fish (zebra, catfish, bettas) for re-homing today. They went to a lovely and caring new home with great friends. She also accompanied me on gathering MUCHO supplies for the dogs’ two week kennel/dog spa (uh, not really) visit and subsequent cross-country car ride to our new digs.

There has been much sadness in the house today. Ms. A, Mr. J, and Miss I are all feeling pretty gutted that they won’t see the dogs for six weeks. I’m ok with it. I think I have a stone heart.

Hubby very generously agreed to carry Pretzel, the guinea pig, through the airport and on the plane in two weeks. He will use a little fabric pet carrier. What a guy.

Miss I, after meeting a kitty up for adoption at the pet store today, opted out of the international adventure if we could get said kitty. I suppose that’s a precursor to what I can expect from an eight year old traveling to Europe. Not sure how much she’ll get out of the entire experience.

We stood our ground and said no to the kitty. We tried to explain that new pets don’t like to move to new houses. Miss I didn’t buy it. She’s still hoping to forgo the international adventure for a new kitty.

To be continued…
